Tech Capital Leap: Karnataka Greenlights New 'Quantum Task Force' to Build India’s Future Quantum City

BENGALURU:  In a massive bid to cement its status as the undisputed tech capital of India, the Government of Karnataka has officially constituted a high-powered, 16-member 'Quantum Task Force'.

The move is designed to fast-track the state into a premier national hub for quantum technology, innovation, and commercial enterprise.

Driving the 'Karnataka Quantum Roadmap'

The establishment of this elite committee follows the strategic vision laid out in the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap, which was originally unveiled at the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit.

The task force will be chaired by Prof. Arindam Ghosh, a JRD Tata Chair Professor and J C Bose National Fellow from the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Serving as the Member Secretary will be the Director of the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of Karnataka) alongside the Managing Director of KSTEPS.

The rest of the 16-member team brings together a heavy-hitting mix of academic pioneers, research specialists, tech industry leaders, and senior government bureaucrats.

What is on the Agenda?

According to official statements from the Department of IT, BT, and Science & Technology, the task force isn't just a theoretical think-tank. It has been handed a very practical, high-stakes mandate:

  • Policy & Strategy: Formulating state-level policies to incentivize quantum research and fast-track industrial adoption.

  • Startup Ecosystem: Creating dedicated support frameworks, funding pathways, and incubation spaces for deep-tech and quantum startups.

  • The Crown Jewel: Blueprinting and overseeing the development of a mega 'Quantum City' in Hesserghatta.

Hesserghatta: India’s Next Silicon Valley?

The proposed Quantum City in Hesserghatta is poised to become the physical epicentre of India's quantum ecosystem. Much like Electronic City and Whitefield defined the IT boom of the late 90s and 2000s, Hesserghatta is being set up to host the next generation of computing power—ranging from quantum cryptography to advanced molecular modeling and next-gen communication networks.

With this move, Bengaluru is looking past traditional software services and aiming straight for the absolute cutting edge of global deep-tech.
