
Dibrugarh,8 March 2024: In a significant turn of events, Assam police have arrested Nipen Das, the superintendent of Dibrugarh central jail, in connection with a case involving objectionable materials found in the cell of Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, and his nine associates lodged in the Dibrugarh central jail.
The arrest of Superintendent Nipen Das took place on Thursday night and follows the discovery of objectionable materials, including mobile phones and a spy camera, in the possession of Amritpal Singh. Amritpal Singh has been held in Dibrugarh Jail since February 17, and the materials were seized from his cell during a routine inspection.
Assam police took swift action against Superintendent Nipen Das based on a case registered in connection with this incident. The nature of Das’s involvement in the case has not been disclosed by authorities at this time.
Of particular note is the legal action taken against Amritpal Singh’s nine associates, who have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA). The individuals facing NSA charges include Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
